SLEEP DISORDERS
Sleep is a core biological need for every human being and an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Sleep disorders and problems falling asleep can have serious consequences for your health and overall quality of your life. The most common sleep and sleep disorders include:
- Insomnia – a sleep disorder characterized by difficult to fall or stay asleep. Other symptoms may also occur, such as waking up frequently during the night or waking up too early. Insomnia can be caused by a variety of factors such as stress, anxiety, depression, too much caffeine or alcohol, or a poor sleep environment.
- Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder that involves excessive daytime sleepiness and sudden bouts of sleep. Narcolepsy can be caused by insufficient production of the neurotransmitter orexin or by an autoimmune disease.
- Sleep rhythm disorders are disorders that affect the synchronization of your sleep cycle with the biological rhythms of your body.
