PROCESSING TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCES

Traumatic experiences are events that affect individuals in a significant and negative way. These events may include physical or sexual assault, war, natural disasters, severe accidents, loss of a loved one, or other traumatic events that evoke a strong sense of fear, helplessness, or terror.

Psychological trauma can develop into post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Symptoms of PTSD include:

  • Detachment from everyday life - numbness, alienation, loss of interest

  • Re-experiencing the trauma, both sleep or awake

  • Disturbed sleep, concentration, hypervigilance

  • Feelings of guilt
